I wonder about that. Could there be something broken within Jetty because I just tried to deploy our web application to it as well (with a filter and alot of stuff like listeners and the like) and I couldn't get my stuff to deploy properly either. It completely ignored my filter on initialization. The Jetty guys around please speak up. I would really like to be able to deploy my stuff on as many servlet engines as possible (just as I feel about application servers).
