RH, Suse, all the Linux distributors are getting their main revenue stream out of CD subscriptions (at least Suse). However, you must face the mass market. $1000 is just too much. Strip the support and all the uninteresting stuff out of the CD. A good installer, binaries, sources, and most importantly the docs. That's it for $100/year, each quarter a CD. You will make millions of $$$. Don't marry it with the community. It's a good JBossGroup business model. Just spend 20% in the community pod.
