This was killing us too. To solve this, we developed two tools: 1) An ant task that invokes jasper's jspc to translate jsps. 2) A wrapper servlet around jasper that will first check for and use a precompiled jsp if it exists, and if not fall back to the default mode of translating / compiling at runtime.
