The point is that you should not have to code presentation specific methods in your mbeans. We are going to be using our html adaptor in the next release so any hacking should be done there. I'm inclined to use a mechanism like the java.beans.PropertyEditor that allows one to obtain a xml fragment given a jmx object name and either attribute name or method name.
Maybe one of the existing xml based web frameworks like Cocoon would be a good fit for this.
