Summary: NullPointerException in CMP Proxy
Initial Comment:
I think this is a similar problem to that reported in
Bug 504246 against JAWS. I'm using JBoss 3.01RC1 with
jdk 1.3.1 and an Oracle8 DB.
If I have a have a CMP field (int or boolean), then I
get a NullPointerException thrown directly from the
proxy class:
2002-07-15 14:26:16,099 ERROR
[org.jboss.ejb.plugins.LogInterceptor]
TransactionRolledbackException, causedBy:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at
oss.biz.ejb.PersonCMP$Proxy.getFingerprintsHeld(<generated>)
at oss.biz.ejb.PersonCMP.getData(PersonCMP.java:52)
at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native
Method)
at
sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39)
at
sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25)
at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:324)
at
org.jboss.ejb.EntityContainer$ContainerInterceptor.invoke(EntityContainer.java:1197)
The problem occurs when there the fields are null in
the database and so goes away if they are changed to
Integer, Boolean etc.
I don't quite understand why the exception occurs in
the proxy class as I thought its only job was to
delegate to its InvocationHandler???

A Java primitive cannot be null, so you can't have null
values in columns that are mapped to Java primitives. There
is a existing bug report to make this error message better.
