Your suggestion was right on. I had not been selecting the log file from the server
view. Thank you for the tip.
If anyone is interested here are the steps:
Window
-Show View
-Other
-JBoss IDE
-Server Navigator
-OK
+Expand the server you are interested in
-Select log file
The log file contents will now appear under the Log File Viewer tab.
