the build should compile using ant versions 1.5.x through 1.6.x (i just tested this).
if you are building via the command line, you should be using one of the "wrapper" scripts (build.sh/bat) to do the build instead of invoking ant directly. ant is "packaged" w/ the nukes checkout so it can take advantage of custom taskdefs, etc that may not be installed on your local machine. did you pull the correct tools directory when you performed the checkout?
