Thank you, a well reasoned reply. Anyway, here's a link that might be of interest.... http://sql-info.de/mysql/gotchas.html Basically, my problem with MySQL is that it's totally dominated from above by Postgres, and from below by HSQL. Perhaps it's dominated a thirdtime by Derby, but I haven't actually used that yet so I can't say for sure, same goes for firebird, and others. I'll repeat myself here. At work, like most financial firms, MySQL doesn't even get in the door. For many years the "official" position of the MySQL developers was that relational integrity and constraints should be left to the applications, so that their database could be left to.....to do what? It's bad enough that the DB has very weak relational/constraint handling, but the fact that the developers only put it in grudgingly, and are convinced that it's useless is a serious cause for concern. Such blasphemy is known too boil holywater, and make babies cry. :-) I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but if the official position of JBoss is that they require a DB whose official position is that they really just want to be a native code flat file reader (no constraints, no relational integrity, no triggers, procs, views, etc....), then this isn't going to work out for a lot of people. This is tricky territory.
