IMO, instead of writing an observer/observable framework, instead, well-defined pointcuts should be published. Basically, what you do is define the pointcut expressions for each integration point in JBossCache and name them. Then anybody can do anything they want around these named pointcuts. They can write any observer/observable pattern they want.
