so you have the window, you do getInstance then getComponent.

once you have the component you look for the plugin 
org.jboss.portal.server.PortalConstants.PLUGIN_PREFS

there you have an instance of org.jboss.portal.server.plugins.mode.ContentTypes 
you can use the method isContentTypeSupported that checks if the component 
supports a specific content type
