It worked and I'm a very happy girl at the moment :-)
And now to specify what I did:
In the jboss.xml under <container-name>Default Stateless 
SessionBean</container-name>
(because that's the config I'm using for my bean) I changed 
container-invoker and instance-pool as per the following:
         
<container-invoker>org.jboss.ejb.plugins.jrmp12.server.JRMPContainerInvoker</container-invoker>
         
<instance-pool>org.jboss.ejb.plugins.StatelessSessionInstancePool</instance-pool>
The old configuration was present for all the container configurations which 
is weird because I was using EJX which came with JBoss bundle (located in 
jboss\bin). But now I know the secret :-)
