I am pretty excited about the progress of the jBoss project. I have been
following the discussions for several weeks now, and this weekend I decided
to start playing with it. On Friday (May 26) I downloaded the latest
release of jBoss 2.0 from CVS. I tried to read all of the documentation, but
most of it is for jBoss 1.0 so I'm not sure it is relevant. I am running
jBoss on Linux (Caldera 2.3). Here are the steps that I took:

1. Move the TestBeans.jar from the Zol directory tree into the "deploy"
directory.

2. Start the jBoss server
  * java -jar run.jar

3. Server starts, but several errors. The server complains about a class not
being found (JRMPContainerInvoker class). I have noticed several posts
about the same problem, so I assume it is going to be fixed. Do I need to
add any of the jBoss jar files to my classpath (I actually tried this, but
it didn't seem to help)?

Here are a couple questions/suggestions for the group:

1. What are the necessary steps to take to get a simple "out-of-the-box"
jBoss 2.0 configuration up and running?

2. Most of the scripts to run jBoss are windows scripts (e.g. run.bat, etc).
Are their plans to include duplicate Unix/Linux scripts?

I applaud the efforts of the jBoss group. This is just what the industry
needs. I would love to get more involved in the development of the project.
I have recently finished a thesis on load-balancing in a CORBA environment.
I would love to port the ideas to an EJB architecture and jBoss looks like
the perfect platform. I have been developing middleware solutions for
several years now and look forward to working with EJBs. Let me know how I
can help.

Thanks in advance.
