Hi all,

I have been following the list on and off for about six months.

I am just about to embark on a project to re-write a huge system that I
wrote over the last 10 years in an old crappy 4GL in Java, and have been
told that our collective lives will be much easier if we use an app
server.
Our new Java contractor is suggesting we buy WebLogic. The cost seems
very high, and I am very interested in using an open source product if
possible.

Anyhow, I haven't yet had enough time to research all this yet, and have
been following the "case study" thread with much interest, and noticed
that a few people said that JBoss isn't ready yet, and for that reason
they are using other products. We will probably be in 'clean room'
development for at least 6 months, and I was wondering if it looks like
JBoss will be commercially useable in that time frame? This is one of
the biggest questions still unanswered. The IT manager at the company I
work for is pushing for Oracle as the database (suits me fine), and also
for using Oracle's development suite and app. server (which I am very
concerned about, particularly after reading the case studies).

Any information, particularly on JBoss's time frame would be very
appreciated. OO and Java are pretty new to me, never mind J2EE, but
JBoss looks quite amazing, and I hope the time frame suits ours!
Is there any info on JBoss's timeframe on the web pages (I couldn't see
any).

Thanks in advance,
