The transactions settings go in the ejb-jar.xml file (in the
container-transaction section in the assembly-descriptors section). If
you have no setting for a particular bean or method, the default in jBoss
is "REQUIRED". You probably want to override that for your bean or
methods thereof to "SUPPORTS", which will not use a transaction unless
there is already one there (say, a transactional bean calls your bean).
There are other settings (which I don't remember the names of off the top
of my head) if you do not want transactions to be used under any
circumstances, or you want calls to the bean or methods to throw an
exception if there is a current transaction, etc.
