No, unfortunately you aren't missing anything.

The EmbeddedTomcatService makes use of a class called "EmbededTomcat" that is
part of Tomcat, itself.  It doesn't make the call to produce the
mod_jk.conf-auto file that you need.

We are currently writing our own equivalent of "EmbededTomcat" that will not
only create that file (as well as the corresponding files for IIS and Netscape
webservers) but also read the configuration from the server.xml file, which
"EmbededTomcat" doesn't do, if you didn't already know that.

I hope to have it checked in in a couple of days.  Until then you will have to
manually manage this file.
