I could be off-tangent here, but couldn't you just add a hard-coded serialUID (not
sure if thats exactly the right term)? I've had to do this with a class that we
serialize into a database for this very reason because every change/recompile of the
particular class would throw a ClassCastException whenever I tried to extract it back
from the db.
