I like mIRC and am using mIRC v5.8 I am pretty sure it is available at tucows and
other common shareware places. It is shareware - don't know of any good freeware
stuff.
Download and install.
The options window should appear the first time you run it; otherwise, look at
File->Options.
IRC Servers: IRCnet, IRCnet US New York NY
Fill in the user information.
Click OK in the Options window to close it.
Connect to the server with the lightning bolt, or File -> Connect
Once connected, a Channels Folder window will appear. Type #jboss.org into the
'channel to join' field. For those not using a GUI type client - type /join
#jboss.org in the console once connected.
In mIRC a window will come up with 3 frames: chat, names, and input. When you type
into the input window, it will appear when you hit the <Enter> key. The names frame
lists who is in the channel - ignore @pinguin.
If you want to quit, type /part or /quit (in mIRC - I don't know if that works in
other clients).
For those not in the US, still use IRCnet, but select the server that is
geographically closest to you.
