As an Macintosh head I cannot help chiming in here.

Take a look at Apples Powerbook <http://www.apple.com/powerbook/> which runs
linux VERY well. It has the low power draw (6.2W) RISC PowerPC with up to 5
hours per battery (10hour total). JBoss run very well on Linux but will not
run under MacOS9 (Java 1.1.8). It should run under MacOSX (a BSD derivative)
with some coercion.

Also using apples entry into IEEE 802.11 wireless technology, Airport, is
very cool :-)

Fast Ultra ATA/66 internal hard

up to 512MB

500MHz RISC (roughly equivalent to a 1+Ghz Pentium III, and no I'm not
trolling for a processor and or benchmark debate here, just know it is very
quick). Also remember CPU MHz is not everything, a computer is the sum of
its parts, as I guess you realise by mentioning the HD speed and quality
Dell & IBM.

And the PowerPC will run cooler than the Pentium, for up to 10 hours with
the dual battery setup.
