Yes, under WEB-INF/classes
I've also had all sorts of problems getting this to work (it got to the point where my servlets could not see some _classes_ in WEB-INF/classes). But no longer! I have taken the plunge, and gone to Jetty. It's pretty good. Check it out some time.
