Hi, This morning, at http://www.theserverside.com, I read about an implementation of the EJB 2.0 persistence model for JBoss called MVCSoft Persistence Manager. It's a commercial product but only costs about $30US and there are no runtime distribution royalties. I bought it right away and I will try it out. Why would I use this product with JBoss? Because for only $30 I can have standards-based persistence in my application which has many advantages; avoiding vendor lock-in (even if the vendor is an open-source vender), more support for the technology I use in my app, easier for other developers to understand, blah. I have no doubt that at some time in the future I will be able to replace it with an open-source solution. It made me think though...if the JBoss team had released a new EJB 2.0 persistence implementation in this manner I would no doubt have paid for it, without complaint, with the expectation that it would become a part of JBoss proper at some time in the future. The JBoss team has built a wonderful product and it would be nice to have a way to support it. What I like about JBoss is that it's a high quality product, it's open-source, and has no per instance licensing cost. That JBoss is totally free is not the main reason I am using it. just some food for thought, ted stockwell -- -------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] List Help?: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
