I considered the question of whether it *can* be done, knowing that this
might eventually reveal unfortunate effects. You considered whether it
*should* be done. Knowledge versus wisdom.
This is not very different from Oppenheimer et al figuring out the practical
issues of fission. They feared that once god's fire was lit, it might
continue to burn, spreading to the rest of the world. To find out many
things, they lit it. Lucky for us, one of the things they learnt was that
god's fire burns out quickly.

You can find out whether the mists conceal cliffs by advising others to
drive on, and listening carefully.
