With jboss-2.1 I also get this problem, with jboss-2.0-FINAL everything
works like a champ.  2.0 is a little hard to find, but if you go to
http://www.jboss.org/bin/ you'll see jBoss-2.0_FINAL.zip (note the
upper-case 'B') and jboss_tomcat.zip (which has 2.0 and tomcat integrated).

PS.  Here's the text of the error:
javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Cannot instantiate class:
org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory [Root exception is
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory]
