Here is what I tried. I modified
server/default/deploy/jboss-web.deployer/serverxml as follows:
<Connector port="${peter.port}" address="${jboss.bind.address}"
The the command line I used was:
run -Dpeter.port=9090
When it came up, HTTP was bound to port 9090.
