You sure there isn't anything on the production system, like firewals, rotten misconfigured routers / switches.. or anything like that?
I think you would get more info from tracing on orb.jboss.remoting tracing (since it looks a remoting/network issue). You may try org.jboss.messaging / org.jboss.jms as well.
