Note that this is inside a Websphere container... and is using a Websphere-provided connection. Could the problem be with Websphere somehow? This would be an obvious concern with EJBs, but I don't know whether it's likely in a web app.
If this seems at all likely, you may want to try running with Oracle, but outside of the container.
