Hopefully to save someone a lot of pain someday in the future:
My components xml was incorrect for my jndi pattern after all. I didn't have
the right prefix on it. I thought just "#{ejbName}/local" would work but I
needed a very specific string in front of that pattern for the lookups to
succeed.
