It appears that you are attempting to do an exploded deployment (see http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ExplodedDeployment). Even with an exploded deployment, you still need to provide the proper file name suffix so that the deployer knows what to deploy. From your description, I think that "kala" is a web application, in which case you should rename it to kala.war (so the full directory name would be D:/jspace/jboss/jboss-3.2.0RC4/server/default/deploy/kala.war)
