Hi,
Another possibiity is that the db connections time out in some way.   For
instance, it appears that due to some kind of bug, interbase/interclient 2
on Linux connections break after a while, at least if they aren't being
used (such as overnight, with no usage).  If this is the problem, I believe
you can set a pool parameter to discard connections after a while.
