This is something worth considering. It may make sense, as we tie portletswap and portal together.
Say you can have a maven -swap task that pulls down all the portletswap portlets locally. That would be one benefit. I don't know enough about SVN, so its best for Julien to decide as he manages the branching/tagging with the project and we don't want to be limited there either.
