Which version of JBoss are you running? I'll bet it is EJB3 RC5 or 4.0.4RC1. In 
those versions you don't lookup your EJB's with foo.class.getName(). See 
http://docs.jboss.org/ejb3/app-server/tutorial/jndibinding/jndi.html.
