With the Nphalanx theme, for example, the top of the portal page has navigation tabs labeled Test, default, etc. Above the tabs is a graphic, call it the top-nav logo image or whatever your terminology is. It shows the text "JBoss Portal" and on the right side has some images of studded spheres. It's a common thing in portals and web sites. The top/header/banner image.
