I've exposed an existing Java method as a JAXRPC web service in JBoss4.0.4. I've run a performance test using JMeter to compare the web service version with the POJO version. It turns out that the web service takes about 160 ms per request, while the POJO takes about 10 ms per request. The web service added about 150 ms overhead. Is this normal or can I increase the performance by tweaking the JBossWS configuration? What about using Document style instead of RPC style, would that increase the performance dramatically? Thanks for your response.
