This may be the problem - I haved jared all together within one JAR, not EAR. 
My interpretation was that an "EJB application" can be packaged in a JAR if no 
specific requirement for EAR is given (like an additional WAR to be packaged 
together with the JAR). Probably this is wrong and the EJB term of 
"application" always refers to an EAR?
