As a test, could you take the application out of the farm folder. I would like to copy it into the deploy folder on each cluster node. I suspect that the same problem will reproduce (from what you have said).
This will help determine if the problem is caused by combining farm deployment with the deployment of the clustered application. Should be interesting.
