The need to retransmit lots of messages would indicate either that one or more servers are overloaded and unable to respond in a timely manner with an ACK to the sender, or that there was some kind of network problem that prevented the messages getting through.
What clustering features are you using? You are sending lots of messages via the HAPartitionImpl (3 in 7 ms n the snippet you provided). HttpSession replication doesn't use HAPartitionImpl, and most services that do don't send lots of messages. Exceptions are clustered EJB 2 SFSBs and JBoss' DistributedState service.
