How big is your war file? How long does it take to deploy? The reason that I ask is that if it takes a while to copy the file, then JBoss could attempt to deploy it before the copy is complete, which could result in the error message you are seeing. An alternative would be to copy the war file to a temporary location on the same disk partition as JBoss, and then move the file from the temporary directory to the deploy directory.
