Check that the value assigned to requisition is actually an instance of the Requisition class (you can do this by putting a break point in org.jboss.seam.Component.setOutjectedValue, line 1074). Your code does look ok though - maybe you could try changing: requisition = em.merge( requisitionSearch.getSelectedRequisition() ); to requisition = new Requisition() ; If that works, then you'll know that em.merge(...) is not returning a Requisition instance.
