I've updated all the out-of-date samples I can find right now. Oracle xa is supposed to be very tricky. Igor Fedorenko worked on it a lot and wrote a special xa wrapper for Oracle. As I understand the situation you get the special wrapper if you use the (now updated) oracle-xa-ds.xml but not the oracle-xa-service.xml.
