Are you familiar with Java ? Are you familiar with J2EE ? If your answer is 'no' to both questions, then you should reconsider your technological choices. J2EE is a powerfull system, but it's not a trivial API that you can understand in 30 minutes. Starting with JBoss takes some time, just like any other app server (although I think this one is easier than some other IMHO). (Apparent) complexity is sometimes the price to pay for high flexibility.
