I see absolutely no problem with implementing the spec as a baseline, but then offering extensions as a differentiator. Very common in the industry in all types of application areas - look at databases and all the proprietary SQL/data type extensions. If JBoss is feeling generous after doing the hard part (design and implementation), they can document this as "Extensions".
