Here's one vote for what you (JBoss) are doing.  I see absolutely no
problem with implementing the spec as a baseline, but then offering
extensions as a differentiator.  Very common in the industry in all
types of application areas - look at databases and all the proprietary
SQL/data type extensions.  If JBoss is feeling generous after doing the
hard part (design and implementation), they can document this as
"Extensions".  Thanks again Bill for taking the time to explain what's
going on in the kitchen.
