If you want to monitor the JVM, consider downloading and evaluating
WebLogic's JRockit JVM. I've used it sparingly at home, using it with
JBOSS3.2RC2 with no problems. It has a console that can be started when the
JVM runs and is graphical. It displays various JVM specific performance
characteristics.

read that using JVMPI will cause JVM to run 2-10 times slower

Maybe intercepting method calls in jboss and measuring time can be
another way how to collect information about deployed apps behavior for
TOP like tool.
