The JBossMX standalone distributions are from JBoss4.
The version you point to was released because it includes
JBossMX/Remoting.

There will probably be another release when we've finished
jmx1.2 and jsr160 implementations.

JBoss3.2 supports jmx1.1

Many people prefer to include the jboss micro-kernel built
on top of jbossmx e.g. the jboss minimal config provides
a jndi server running on the kernel.
