I can't find the message right now, but I remember seeing one about specifying a scratchdir parameter for Tomcat, so JSPs won't get recompiled every time Tomcat is restarted. However, it wouldn't work for me when I tried, so I wanted to pose a few questions to see if anyone could give me some insight.

1. I specified the scratchdir parameter in ${jboss.home}/server/default/deploy/jbossweb-tomcat41.sar/web.xml. Is this the correct web.xml, or should I specify it in the web.xml of my webapp?

2. Because of some System.out statements I added for debugging purposes, I saw that during startup my scratchdir parameter was recognized, but afterwards when a request for a JSP came in it would always use the default work directory. Could this be a result of having specified the parameter in the wrong place (see 1)?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.
