If your cmp field is binary data, such as an image, then you should probably map to byte[]. Otherwise, the field can be any java.lang.Object that implements java.io.Serializable. Note that JBoss will not magically convert your field into something that is serializable. It must be declared that way in the first place. Indeed, this is a requirement for CMP fields anyway.
