you do not get this with oracle ?
I only get this with oracle so far.

For columns of type CHAR(x) (fixed length) values "A " and "A" are not equal.
Oracle compares all chars, including the trailing blanks. This is there definition of 
equalnes.

Only workaround is to fill the variable with blanks or use sql datatype VARCHAR 
instead of CHAR.
