I had the same problem as above initially. Then after commenting out
<depends>jboss:service=Hypersonic,database=localDB</depends>

I got a much more serious error that caused jboss-4.0.1 to loop indefinitely
after complaining:

org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.InternalManagedConnectionPool.getConnection(InternalManagedConnectionPool.java:207)

Finally, I saw the suggested fix above, but it was ambiguous about exactly what
to do to fix it. Eventually, I figured it out, but for the sake of others who
might have the same problem here is the entire hsqldb-ds.xml file changed so
Hypersonic will use port 1701:
