It looks like the linux kernel that linux 8.0 runs lists threads as separate processes when doing ps. I see the same behaviour on Redhat ES 2.1, but not e.g. on FreeBSD-5.3. If I remember correctly, it depends on the kernel's threading model.... I think linux threads list each thread as a separate process. (not sure about NPTL, etc.)
