Is this a clean installation? I had a few initial errors that resulted from artifacts from a RC1 installation on a 4.0.2 installation.
Try deleting the files under $JBOSS_HOME\server\default\tmp. If that does not work, make sure you do not have two similar files under $JBOSS_HOME\server\default\deploy for Portal or Hibernate. For example I had portal-ds.xml and portal-oracle-ds.xml.
