Problem is that you are bundling up log4j.jar in your war file but when deploying into the jboss4.0.2, it takes log4j.jar implementation from the server type/lib folder (default/minimal/all).
I got rid of this error by pointing log4j.jar within the eclipse project java build path to the server/lib file and it works sweet. I believe problem is only with 4.0.2 and not the earlier versions, because my war file deployed on earlier version. Problem found only with 4.0.2 and wasted 4 hours of my time today.
