I found a simular solution to the problem (as the last statement)...

If one is deployed with an ear file, the application.xml can have the following 
statement:
<module>
        <web>
            ...
            &lt;context-root&gt;/</context-root&gt;
        &lt;/web&gt;
    &lt;/module&gt;
